Judge Karen MacLeay said: “She showed true Welsh type, and a distinction between working and strong trot. She was soft in the mouth and had a good attitude.”

Judge Karen MacLeay said, “This pony showed Welsh type and fit my description of a good hunter pony, with balance and movement.” Judge Kathy MacLeay said, “He looked the part of a fine hunter pony—good body, bone, and well proportioned individual.”

Pat said she's “a stunning young mare, feminine, brimming with breed type, and a 'look-at-me' presence! I especially liked her great legs: straight, flat boned, short cannons, with good muscling. Enya is a well-balanced mare with free movement, a beautiful well set-on neck, good topline and powerful hip. She is a beautiful example of a Welsh Mountain Pony."

Pat says Eloquence is “a filly who trotted in as if she owned the ring! Very elegant, with hocks, reach, and propulsion. She shows the immaturity of a yearling but with the correct conformation to grow into a strikingly handsome mare. Lots of potential in this pretty girl.”

Stacey Schaber's xix-year-old Welsh Mountain Pony mare, Applevalley Lychee (Beau Haven Filbert x Foothill's Halcyonia Kiara by Young's Fella) was judge Molly Rinedollar’s pick for Supreme Champion Welsh— keeping to the same family as her Young Stock Reserve Champion, Lychee’s three-month-old foal, Foothill’s Bring Bling. Judges Elizabeth Russell and Molly Rinedollar were of the same mind for the Welsh geldings, awarding Stacey Schaber’s 9-year-old Welsh Mountain Pony *Menai Step-On (Knolton Daylight x Menai Slip-On by Friars Generous) the 2016 Supreme Championship neck sash—though not his first. Elizabeth says about him, “A lovely example of a true Welsh Mountain Pony. Good bone, tail and head set. He covered the ground and sparkled in his gelding classes. One of the 2016 show’s most consistently successful entries was Exeter Evenstar (Northwind Catcall x Alvesta Brianna by *CadlanValley Pirate), a Half-Welsh two-year-old filly owned and bred by Karen Chorney. Shirley Cane placed her 2016 Futurity Gr. Ch. Half-Welsh and Res. Gr. Ch. Sport Pony. Elizabeth Russell placed her Gr. Ch. Half-Welsh & Gr. Ch. Sport Pony, while Molly Rinedollar put her Gr. Ch. The 2016 Model Hunter Pony Reserve Championship went to four-year-old Half-Welsh mare Ulterra I Believe (Machno Carwyn x Taffy), bred and owned by Cathy Chalack from Carstairs. Judge Molly Rinedollar says, “Ulterra I Believe is a very pretty mare with a lot of bone, scope, and athleticism, while maintaining Welsh characteristics.”
Under judge Elizabeth Russell, the Grand Champion Model Hunter pony was a type not uncommon type for the hunter ring back in the U.K. When Bryson’s I Am Canadian’s named was called, his little handler, Violet Raimondi from Calgary was obviously thrilled. This is the Raimondi’s second year showing at the Wild Rose Show, and the first time their 14-year-old Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding won this large championship.
